Learning to be Smarter with Money

I have been thinking a lot about finances lately. Started learning about financial literacy and trying to shop more intentionally. I was at Ulta yesterday for a new exfoliator and I wanted to smell some perfume. I didn’t buy any, but I did get my exfoliator as well as some new eyeliner.

I did feel a little ashamed of myself, for spending the amount that I did. But what I also did was ask myself, “If I buy this lip gloss, will I actually wear it?” The answer is no. It was a black lip-gloss by Nyx Cosmetics. I am a goth girl yes, but I also don’t wear too much makeup or dress too “gothy.” I consider myself lowkey, mainly because I don’t want attention and I don’t feel like answering twenty-five questions from strangers. Am also not obligated to wear dark makeup to prove anything to anyone, it’s a silly stereotype. So, I put the lip gloss down and saved money on something that would have just sat in my room and would never see the light of day. The old version of me would have bought it.

My point is I’m trying to get a hold of unnecessary spending. I’ve even cancelled subscriptions I’m not using. I paused Cook Unity because it was starting to get expensive, and the last few meals I got were ok at best.

Also, why does everything have to be a subscription now? I guess in some areas it makes sense, but that shit sneaks up you. Skincare, makeup, haircare, next thing you know you have eighty subscriptions going and you wonder where all of your money is going.

$15.00 a month here

$20.00 a month there

Another $24.00 over there.

It’s insanity to me.

I have pretty big goals in life, and if I plan to achieve them, I need to be a lot more intentional about spending and budgeting. So, this is where I am starting. I will be a little difficult but I’m trying.
